The Town of East Greenbush Comprehensive Zoning Law, latest revision June 11, 2008 was adopted to promote and effectuate the orderly physical development in the town in accordance with the Town’s Comprehensive Master Plan. The law addresses the use of property, whether residential, commercial or industrial, including but not limited to: buildings, additions, parking areas, driveways, signs, sheds, garages, swimming pools, decks, gazebos, and major landscaping. The ordinance is administered daily and enforced by the Department of Building and Development. All interpretation questions, variances, and special use permits are handled by the Board of Appeals. The seven-member board generally meets twice a month on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month at 7:30 p.m. in the Town Hall main court room (excluding holidays).

Copies of the town’s Comprehensive Zoning Ordinance are available for review and purchase for $35.00 at the Town Clerk’s office, located in the Town Hall.

The Zoning Board of Appeals meets on the second and fourth Tuesday of every month and start at 7:30 pm. The approved meeting dates for 2010 are as follows: 1/26, 2/23, 3/9, 3/23, 4/13, 4/27, 5/11, 5/25, 6/8, 6/22, 7/13, 7/27, 8/10, 8/24, 9/14, 9/28, 10/12, 10/26, 11/9, 11/23, 12/14, 12/28.

History of East Greenbush

The history of the Town of East Greenbush dates back to 1628 when historians believe the first settlers arrived in the area. Today, East Greenbush has retained its small-town roots, while also serving as an important suburb of the City of Albany and home to many retail, corporate, and manufacturing businesses.
