Transfer Station Changes PDF Print E-mail

Single stream recycling has come to the Town of East Greenbush, just in time for the New Year. Beginning on Tuesday January 2, 2012, the residents of the Town of East Greenbush will no longer be required to separate their recylables, to dump at the Transfer Station. All recyclable materials, including;  cans, glass, plastic, paper and cardboard, will be disposed of in one trailer, which was previously used for just plastics. Normal household trash will continue to be disposed of in the Main Transfer Station Hopper. Residents should realize several benefits of the new system, mainly, a more fluid and user friendly experience while using the facility. Residents will also find the new system much safer, as they will not be required to walk to different bins in bad weather conditions, limiting the chances of a slip and fall accident while walking in and out of the slippery trailers. In addition to the new recycling proceedures, the DPW workforce has cut a new road for exiting the facility on the north end. No longer will there be a log jam with cars entering and exiting the one gate. The new gate will be One Way, used for Exiting only. On the financial end, the Town and Taxpayers should realize a subastantial savings with the new operations, as we will be paid for all recyclables, where we were previously paid for only paper, cardboard and cans. The savings in transportation costs alone should be considerable, as the recyclables will be transported to the Port of Albany, by the Town, as opposed to our transporting the materials to Columbia County, or paying to have them removed.  All of these changes have been made with the Taxpayer in mind and at minimal cost to the town, as all work was done by the towns DPW crews, in an effort to provide the best services possible.
