Building & Code

The Building Department is responsible for the administration and enforcement of Local Laws as well as the New York State Uniform Code and the Energy Code.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Building Permits
  • Construction Inspections
  • Certificates of Occupancy and /or Compliance upon completion of permitted projects
  • Operating Permits
  • Fire Safety and Property Maintenance Inspections
  • Investigation of complaints relating to a violation of applicable laws
  • Recordkeeping

Section 57-63 Building Permits - Zoning Requirements

All persons proposing to construct, erect, or relocate, alter, repair, extend, remove, demolish, or structurally change any building, structure, or portion thereof, shall apply to the Building Inspector for a Building Permit on an appropriate form. Building Permits, Submittal, Payment and Fee Schedule

Building Permits

Permits are to be obtained prior to the start of any work. Do not send payment with the application. Residential permit review and approval process takes approximately 7-10 days.

Non-residential permit review and approval process time varies.

Building Permit Submittal

Submit the Building Permit application with plans and/or scope of work in duplicate via mail, email (egcodes@eastgreenbush.org) or at the Town of East Greenbush Building Department. 

A. Construction design requirement: Any new construction, structural addition or renovation requires submittal of plans stamped by an architect or structural engineer licensed to practice in New York State.

B. Application for building permit: A building permit application shall be submitted stating the use and occupancy, accompanied by a sketch plan drawn to scale. The plan shall include dimensions, location on the lot or in the building of proposed construction, erection, relocation, alteration, repair, extension, removal, demolition or structural change. The plan must show the relation to existing structures; and the proposed grading, drainage & sediment control coverage.

Proof of Insurance must be provided by the property owner, agent or contractor. General Liability, Workers Compensation or an exemption form (CE200) may apply; listing the Town of East Greenbush as the certificate holder and/or additional insured.

Payment

Payments are accepted in the form of cash or check, checks made payable to the Town of East Greenbush. Payments are accepted at the Building Department after you are notified that your permit has been approved.
