Supervisor’s Report – May 11, 2018

We’re very pleased to announce the appointment of George J. Hoffman, Jr., Esq. to the position of Town Justice for the Town of East Greenbush.Justice Hoffman replaces Justice Mary Pat Donnelly who resigned to become a candidate for Rensselaer County District Attorney.George Hoffman began his legal career as an Assistant District Attorney for Columbia County, and has nearly twenty years of experience with criminal and vehicle/traffic cases. Most recently, he has served as Attorney for the Town’s Zoning Board of Appeals.Justice Hoffman brings a strong foundation in the law to his new assignment as well as a reputation for hard work, fairness and integrity. His work with the ZBA was outstanding and we look forward to the excellent job he will do in the busiest Town court in Rensselaer County. We also wish Mary Pat Donnelly well in her race for District Attorney and thank her for doing an excellent job as Town Justice!

On May 23rd at 4:00 p.m. we’ll be holding our annual Spotlight on Youth awards ceremony at Town Hall. We’ll be honoring ten outstanding young people for their achievements and contributions to our community. This is one of my favorite events! If you’re one of those people who think that our younger generation is not prepared for the future I invite you to attend our Spotlight on Youth ceremony because listening to the accomplishments of our honorees will change your thinking and fill you with optimism about the future of our Town and Country.

The Memorial Day Parade is scheduled for Saturday, May 26, 2018.The parade will assemble at the East Greenbush Bowling Center. The parade will step off at 10:00 a.m. and will proceed to VFW Post 7338 on Hays Road.We saw declining attendance at last year’s parade so the Town has stepped in to help bolster participation and attendance at this year’s festivities. There will be floats, bands, and other attractions so bring the whole family out as we celebrate and remember those who gave their lives so that we might be free.
