Troy, East Greenbush, Bethlehem Partnering on Household Hazardous Waste Disposal Collection Events
For Immediate Release
March 4, 2021
TROY, EAST GREENBUSH, BETHLEHEM PARTNERING ON 2021 HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE DISPOSAL EVENTS
The City of Troy, Town of East Greenbush, and Town of Bethlehem will be partnering on the first-ever inter-municipal Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) disposal program for 2021. These events, scheduled April, June, August and October, will provide residents of the three municipalities the opportunity to safely dispose of hazardous materials not accepted through normal garbage collection service.
Troy Mayor Patrick Madden said, “We’re excited to expand the availability of household hazardous waste collection this year in partnership with fellow Capital Region communities of East Greenbush and Bethlehem. These free disposal events help Troy residents and families safely dispose of harmful contaminants from their homes while reducing their environmental impact by redirecting toxic or hazardous materials away from local landfills. I encourage residents to participate in this valuable program during available dates this year.”
Town of East Greenbush Supervisor Jack Conway said, “Safe disposal of household hazardous waste has been an unmet need in our town. Safe HHW disposal services provide multiple environmental and safety benefits. This program will address this need by providing residents multiple opportunities for safe HHW disposal throughout the year. By working with our partners to share services, we have been able to expand these opportunities for East Greenbush residents, as well as for residents of Troy and Bethlehem, to reduce environmental contamination, increase public safety, and provide this service to our communities.”
Town of Bethlehem Supervisor David VanLuven said, “We are pleased to offer safe, free opportunities for Bethlehem residents to properly dispose of toxic household materials, as it will help keep our neighborhoods, our waterways, and our residents and Highway workers safe. I’m also happy to have Bethlehem working in partnership with the City of Troy and Town of East Greenbush to deliver this important service at a lower cost to taxpayers.”
The disposal event is a free service available to residents of these three municipalities only. Residents wishing to participate in the program will need to register for this event online by visiting www.BEThhw.org, click the relevant registration link for their community, create an account, and enter ALL required information. Residents without access to the internet can contact their community’s municipal liaison (see below).
A limited number of electronic coupons are available, and will be issued to registrants prior to each event. Individuals who have not pre-registered will be unable to utilize the program.
Our vendor will also set up appointments to collect hazardous waste from businesses and commercial entities; however there will be fees associated with disposal of these materials. If you are interested in taking advantage of this opportunity, please contact your municipal liaison (see below).
