Members of the East Greenbush Police Department are hired from the Rensselaer County Civil Service list and attend the Zone 5 Regional Law Enforcement Academy located in Schenectady, New York. The academy is 6 month’s in length, and officers are taught courses which include Penal Law, Vehicle and Traffic Law, Criminal Procedure Law, Search & Seizure, interviewing and interrogations, juvenile law, defensive tactics, emergency vehicle operation control, firearms training and certification, and survival techniques.
The Zone 5 Training Academy serves Albany, Fulton, Greene, Montgomery, Rensselaer, Saratoga, Schenectady, Schoharie, Warren and Washington Counties, New York. Members of the East Greenbush Emergency Communications Center are also hired from the Rensselaer County Civil Service list. After getting through the hiring process recruits observe seasoned dispatchers and learn the ins and out of call taking and dispatching of Police,Fire,EMS and Public Works. The East Greenbush Emergency Communications Center also provides Part-Time opportunities. The East Greenbush Police is currently looking for lateral transfers of New York State certified Police Officers. In addition, we are accepting resumes for candidates on the current Rensselaer County Civil Service list as well as the upcoming exam which is being held in December. Resumes can be sent to the Chief of police or faxed to the department.
